u15 Soccer vs Rockwell College

ERSS 2 - 1 Rockwell College

Our u15 team came out on top against a very good Rockwell College side today in the Quarter Final of the Munster Minor Trophy. A great performance from the lads in very cold conditions at Cahir Park AFC.

1st Half:

We started very strong and within the first 3 minutes we had a number of attacks and shots on target. Our midfield of Tommy Bourke and Jack Torpey Walsh dictated the game, while our wingers Fionn Power and Harry Farrell were constantly getting forward and causing Rockwell problems. Our first goal came from a wonderful bit of play from Jay O'Gorman who started at right back, floating a ball into the box to Harry. Harry dealt with an awkward bounce and oncoming defenders to head home the ball past the Rockwell keeper.

(1-0)

After kick off we started strong, Jay O'Gorman getting forward again with some brilliant solo dribbling through midfield and finding Harry again. Unfortunately against the run of play, only a few minutes later, Rockwell got up the pitch and a few errors in defense meant an easy tap in for Rockwell's number 11.

(1-1)

We took control for the rest of the first half and were unlucky not to score on a number of occasions. Dylan Walsh, playing upfront for us, was close from a free kick. Harry and Fionn had a number of chances with balls played into the front line by Jay O'Gorman, who had moved into midfield. Our back line were impermeable, Alex O'Dwyer was calm and assured and provided us with many out balls, driving on the change from defense to attack from left back, and with Craig O'Donnell and Callum Hartery linking up brilliantly at centre back, Rockwell had no real clear chances for the remainder of the first half. 20 minutes in we got our second goal, which was well deserved. Tommy Bourke's lob from midfeild found Harry Farrell again, who calmly headed over the on-rushing keeper and followed the ball around the keeper to slot home a brilliantly worked goal.

(2-1)

We nearly made it three with a free kick from Alex O'Dwyer that hit the cross bar but saw out the first half at 2-1 and were in full control of the game.

2nd Half:

Rockwell came out second half and with a number of changes to their starting eleven, including goal keeper, they started off very strong. From a corner they were unlucky not to score as their player headed just over. They hit us with waves of attack for the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half, but Eoin Connolly made a number of good saves and was very assured in goal facing their shots.

Much of the half was played in midfield for a spell, but Jay O'Gorman and Rhys Prenderville in particular tracked down every Rockwell player in possession and put us back in control. Alex O'Dwyer came close again and forced a great save from the Rockwell keeper.

With 10 minutes left we brought on Conor O'Meara upfront to give us some physicality and height in attack. Conor was unlucky with the fast surface of the astro with the ball moving quickly and just allowing their keeper time to stop a number of great balls in from midfield. On the wings Harry and Fionn were relentless and made a number of runs into the box and nearly scored.

The game finished 2-1 to ERSS. A brilliant game that really showcase just what a talented squad of players we have at this age level. We are now through to the Munster Semi-Final and look forward to more success in the future.
