Letter to Parents Re Online Teaching (8th January 2021)

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope that you and your family are all keeping safe and healthy and I wish you all a successful 2021.

Following the Minister announcement yesterday we all return to remote learning starting on Monday, 11th January. Remote learning will begin at 11.10am. I would draw your attention to the school policy (attached below) and discuss it with your son surrounding the appropriate use of technology. The policy also outlines how remote teaching will be managed in the school. Please note the following:

  • Microsoft 365 including Class Notebook, Teams and @erss.ie email addresses, will be the platform used by teachers to upload work and assignments. The use of personal email accounts is not acceptable.

  • Students are to follow the school timetable in order to schedule online lessons and receive/submit work.

  • Students may only communicate with their teachers during normal school hours.

  • Most importantly, recordings should not be made of any work by the teacher or another student or any other person unless with explicit permission from the teacher.

  • A class roll will be taken at the beginning of each class.

  • Sanctions laid out in our Code of Behaviour and Acceptable use Policy will apply in cases where they are deemed appropriate.

  • It will be your son’s responsibility to upload work on time.

Teachers will contact your son(s) on Microsoft Teams to communicate information about the delivery of on-line classes.

As a school, we have invested considerably in I.T. over the last number of months to ensure teaching and learning is of the highest standard. Teachers will connect with students through live teaching, video tutorials, PowerPoints etc. in addition to achievable and manageable assignments.

If your son has difficulty accessing his school email/password etc please contact Ms. Kane (deirdre.kane@erss.ie) during normal school hours and she will help to resolve the issue.

As a school, we have a limited supply of devices available to assist students in need, if your son needs a laptop to use for on-line learning during school closure, please contact Ms. Barry (linda.barry@erss.ie). Priority will be given to students in exam years.

As a school we are here to support, assist and help your son(s) in the coming weeks with on-line learning. We look forward to returning to the classroom in the near future when it is safe to do so.

Please do not hesitate to contact us by email if you have a question, query or concern that we may be able to help you with.

Kind regards,

Yours sincerely,

Mr. Anthony Leahy and Ms. Linda Barry
